2016 Keynote Panel Discussions

Keynote I

The Transfer Playbook: Strategies for Strengthening Pathways to Bachelor’s Degrees and Beyond

Moderated by Davis Jenkins, Ph.D., Senior Research Associate, Community College Research Center (CCRC), Columbia University

  • Kerin Hilker-Balkissoon, Northern Virginia Community College
  • Bekah Schlatter, Prince William County Public Schools
  • Amy Takayama-Perez, George Mason University

Keynote II

Making Space for Data Insights

Presented by Karen Stout, Ph.D., President and CEO, Achieving the Dream

Colleges and their leaders need to make space on their campuses to really listen to shape insights from the vast stores of data on our campuses. The presentation will articulate four ingredients that colleges need to gain better data insights including developing a strong analytical ecosystem, holding a basic understanding of process design, holding a mindset that values the hidden potential of qualitative research, and making a commitment to create space for stakeholder engagement with data.

Keynote III

Reimagining our Model to Improve Student Completion: The Guided Pathways Approach

Presented by Rob Johnstone, Ph.D., Founder and President, National Center for Inquiry and Improvement (NCII)

Our best efforts by our best people to significantly improve community college completion rates haven’t produced the scaled improvements in outcomes we’d hoped. During this session, we’ll explore how to build on our past efforts and shift our thinking more fundamentally about how students are recruited to, enter, and progress through our colleges.

“What I really like about this conference is it’s focused on actionable data—how to get the right information to the right folks at the right time.”

“I’m excited to say I’ve never seen anything that in-depth.  To actually have, at one time, so many people sit down and focus on the overall idea of how to implement and change the overall scope of student success.”
